Focus 2019: Sustainability – Meet Roald
I am Roald, an architecture student for the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa.
As a student, sustainability is often preached but less often practiced within our projects. This leaves little to be learned about sustainability if it is not required within projects. This is why I became part of the Focus2019 topic, to learn about sustainability and how architecture can contribute towards a better tomorrow and maybe be able to teach someone else something along the way.
Sustainability is something we need to consider in everything we do today because of the current state of global warming and climate change we are experiencing in our everyday lives. Teaching others to avoid or correct the mistakes of our current bad habits and unsustainable systems we have put in place is the first step in taking charge of our climate and how to better the world.
Studying in 2019 has its challenges but the constant innovation in technology and mediums and how we can use it to better our designs and future structures keeps us motivated and interested to see what comes next within the project briefs and competitions.
